NYU LSAT Average Forum

I just found out, to my dismay, that NYU Law averages the LSAT scores. Is their 25/75 statistics (166 and 171 i think) based on that average?

I'll be retaking for the third time, NYU is one of my top top choice (applied last cycle, WL-ed until the end but didn't get in) I was hoping that scoring couple points higher would allow me to be competitive, and hopefully get me in. However, my first LSAT score is pretty low (162). FYI, my GPA is pretty low too.

Yes, but they evaluate based on the average score in most cases. The Committee may take special circumstances into account. If a candidate can point out specific reasons why the Committee should consider an LSAT score aberrant, they should detail those reasons in an addendum to the personal statement"

Yeah, cc1012 is mostly correct. NYU does say that they consider the average (and they reiterated this when I went to an info session), but the 25/50/75 data is based on highest score, so, given that that is the data they report to USNWR for rankings, your highest score is almost certainly more important than your average.

Sometimes people do things other than what they say. This is improtant for an aspiring lawyer to understand.

The higher the difference between the scores the more weight they will assign to the higher score. So just focus on getting the highest score possible.

At least when I went to their info session and asked the admission officer directly, he said they usually only consider the highest score.
