Penn, Duke, UM Optional Essays

Post by imperspective » Sun Oct 25, 2015 4:45 pm

When do the optional essays at Penn, Duke and Michigan help, and when do they not make a difference?

Do they help people on the borderline of admission, or people who would already be admitted with getting money (or neither)?

I'm above their GPA 75ths, and I have 170. Will writing optional essays for these schools help me get money?

The optional essays may differ for each school. It is best to contact the schools you are interested in applying to directly and asking whether they encourage applicants to complete the optional essay and what it is best served for; loans, grants, financial aid, or part of admission decision.

Best of luck!
