LSAT SCORES NOT IMPROVING MUCH...

Post by lath0028 » Thu Oct 08, 2015 8:08 pm

Here's whats going on. I began to study for the LSAT in July. I took a one month class (once a week), took a pretest - bombed it & by the end of the class session, I did a little better. Since then I'd lost most of my confidence in my abilities. Although I've figured out some things about myself & found a perfect study area on a local college campus...my LSAT scores are still terrible. I usually get half right - no matter what. It's growing very disappointing, I've watched videos, decided to put testing off until I'm ready (hopefully Febuary) & give my studies a half-hearted attempt. I'm growing disinterested by the day. I just don't really know what to do. Logic games are especially difficult. My self-confidence has totally plummeted & I'm really frustrated in getting 12/25 every damn time I try. I quit my second job, moved home & my friends/family think I'm delusional for trying to apply for law school. Any suggestions? Structured schedule? Tutor? Etc?

buy the powerscore bible for logic games and logical reasoning, go through those for starters. RC is tougher to learn but it's also very learnable. Doing preptests over and over before you even know how to properly attack the questions is a waste of time.

Don't give up! I didn't see ANY improvement till like 2 months into prep, and even that was minimal then. Point is KEEP GRINDING. It'll click eventually!

I don't know how much you're trying to improve, but I went up 14 points from my raw pretest (basically all logic games) so it can be done. I've also heard of 20 point increases--but make no mistake, the test is hard and well-designed. Don't feel stupid or discouraged that its not coming to you right now. Of all of them, I think logic games are the most learnable--7sage helped me a lot. Feel free to PM me if you need any help.

Personally went from only getting half of the logic games on my first few practice tests to all of them on the actual test. It can be done.

Seven sage and cambridge drilling packets were the way to go for me. I would take game, and if I got any wrong or took more than seven minutes, I would review the game on seven sage. Then I would weight a few days and repeat the same process. I did this until I got every question right in under seven minutes for over 100 games (with a few exceptions for the more time consuming games).

I felt the same as you a number of months ago. I started with the Kaplan test book, went through all the bibles and after all of that I hardly improved.

Personally, I made the most improvement when I these things:

1) LSAT trainer is awesome. Get it and go through it (I didnt care for the logic games section of it though but for reading comp and LR its great).

2) Use 7sage for videos on logic games as others have said.

3) Take a diagnostic test if you havent yet. See area's you are weak in and hit that hard. I started with a 143-149.

4) Do untimed sections and use cambridge packets to drill. Get your accuracy up.

5) Timed sections and then going over the section again untimed BEFORE grading it. See what mistakes you're making and use the 7sage lsat analytics to help find trends.

Honestly, the LSAT sucks and you will need to keep doing it over and over again to beat the concepts and patterns into your head. You may not notice gains at first but they will come. Be careful not to exhaust your materials too quickly. Rather than blowing through content, do proper review of everything you do.

Have you tried giving yourself unlimited time to do a single LG? If you still miss half of the questions then you should try a different method. If you get all or most of the questions correct then address ways to increase your speed. Try to decrease your time little by little. Don't expect perfection right away. You will eventually find a speed-accuracy balance that maximizes your score.

You would probably benefit from a break. Your frustration is likely causing you problems on your test. Go out and have a little fun for a few days. When you return to studying try to find a way to make the test fun. Each LG can be a little puzzle or a story. IMHO it is not a good idea to half-heartedly study.

A bit of physical excercise right before you study or take a PT might also help you.

Believe in yourself. Losing your confidence will only hurt you.

Best of luck.
