Why "X" Law School Essay

Post by Judgeasaurus_Rex » Tue Sep 29, 2015 3:10 pm

How important is it that you write a school specific essay? My personal statement is the same for most of the schools I applied to, except for a paragraph at the end that is specific to each school, where I flush out my interest in attending (clinics, location, etc.). Since certain schools ask for a shorter (2 page) personal statement, I may only write a why "x" law school essay for these schools and take out the school specific paragraph from the PS, essentially just making it its own separate essay.

Is it a make or break if you do not write a school specific essay?

Browse some of the previous threads on this topic.

I think a completely standard 2 page PS to all schools + 1 page Why Xs is a pretty decent game plan.

+1. Seems to help me and helps avoid the YP.

Generally, it will not make or break the admission decision whether it is a school specific essay or not. The content is more important than the specific name of the school in the essay. There may be a supplemental application in which you may write the school specific reasons for applying.
