LoR request Prof. not responding

Post by dsomlawschool » Tue Sep 15, 2015 5:49 pm

Hello,
it is my first time to write in the forum and I plan to apply in late October/early November. I graduated from my undergraduate on this May.
I requested LOR from two professors in the first week of September. One said yes immediately after asking.
But the other professor did not respond me. So a week later, yesterday, I sent her e-mail again. I took two of her classes receiving A and A-. I attached my essays and resume. I also got a recommendation letter for my study abroad program during my college years from this prof.

Finally, I could hear from her back on the same day that I sent her email again (yesterday). She replied, "Hello, XXX, I can write you a letter. I am very busy until October. Remind me when deadlines are approaching."
So I replied her back immediately and I thanked her and I politely ask her availability of writing me a letter by end of October. (was it rude to ask since she already told me that she is very busy until October?) I also explained that the earliest deadline is on Nov. 15th. I am trying to apply of ED.

And until now, I did not get any response.........I do not think she will respond unless I send her another email. should I email her again? or should I just wait? do I need to ask another professor? I don't want to annoy her....
I am not sure what I can do.....

Any suggestions please?

It's mid-September. Your professor already explained to you that she's "very busy until October." That means she is very busy right now. I don't understand why you're not simply doing what your professor requested--i.e., wait and then remind her when your deadline is approaching.

If this situation is too stressful for you, then find someone who will write you a letter of recommendation right away.

When do you think I have to notify her again..? 2 weeks before the deadline? I just wanted to ask my prof whether she could write a letter by end of October since she said she is very busy until October.. :(

I'd say remind her during the last week of October.

Again, get a backup anyway.
I would actually say notify her around mid-October. The difference is probably minimal, but just figured I'd share my two cents. Oh, and OP. Don't stress.

Thanks for comments. I did not put her email address on my LSAC yet. I am planning to put her email address at the end of September or early October(after done with october LSAT) and at the same time, send her email again to notify that I put her email on LSAC with deadline. What do you guys think? Or should i put her email address now..? i dont think she will actually check this email now.

I can think of another professor but I am not sure he can write a strong letter. I am sure he knows my weaknesss even though i get A- in his class..so I am afraid.

Is it possible to get letters from three professors and then choose two of them to send to law schools? Or does LSAC automatically send LOR to law schools when they get letters from professors?

Hey, this isn't what you're asking about, and I know this is going to sound harsh, but please consider taking a couple of years off before law school. You're going to have a rough time in law school (and, if you get a job, in a law office) without first getting a little more experience in the world. It's really in your interest to get some work experience first. Law school will still be there.

Why do people who can't write two grammatical sentences in a row think it's a good idea to go to law school?
