Re: resume
Think hard about what types of categories are relevant for you resume. Potential examples include WE, volunteer work, education, language and other miscellaneous skills, references, UG/Law school activities, and your contact info. Keep it all to 1 page. Have consistent formatting throughout. Google tips along those lines and look up articles talking about what types of fonts look better, what type of spacing is ideal, etc. Also have slight alterations for different uses of your resume. Make your name a bit bigger since it should stick out and think about the order in which you present your categories.
All of those tips could be applied to the link you were previously given since they are likely representative of typical law student resumes.

Re: resume
I modeled my resume after one sample I found on the university of alabama's website for law students. Try looking there if Harvard doesn't work out.

Re: resume
This is what mine looked at the beginning of 2L year, genericized and redacted. Red is stuff that was added after starting law school. The resume I applied to law school with was basically the same design before cramming the new stuff in, except with more relaxed spacing. It still looks largely similar now, after graduation (with another summer job, which forced me to drop 2 of the older jobs off).

Not to hijack the thread but I'm debating whether or not to put interests on my resume. Any thoughts on it?

Re: resume
If that section would say something that you believe would be relevant to share with potential employers, go for it. Looked like the resume posted above included that section. It is only a line or two, but maybe you want to use that line or two for something else on your page.lawman84 wrote:Not to hijack the thread but I'm debating whether or not to put interests on my resume. Re: resume
It doesn't matter much for admissions, but you will be pretty much expected to have it on there at some point in 1L when you start looking for your summer job. Might as well do it now.lawman84 wrote:Not to hijack the thread but I'm debating whether or not to put interests on my resume. Any thoughts on it?
Look at the amount of stuff I fit on one page. You can spare the single line for interests.

Re: resume
I've already finished 1L year. I can make it fit although I don't have an abundance of room. I am curious if people think it's important.rinkrat19 wrote:It doesn't matter much for admissions, but you will be pretty much expected to have it on there at some point in 1L when you start looking for your summer job. It's kind of expected, especially by firms, for interviewing. I'm surprised your OCS didn't recommend it. It's a useful way for interviewers to start conversations and get a feel for you.lawman84 wrote:I've already finished 1L year. I can make it fit although I don't have an abundance of room. Fair point. I'll put it on there then.rinkrat19 wrote:It's kind of expected, especially by firms, for interviewing. I'm surprised your OCS didn't recommend it. It's a useful way for interviewers to start conversations and get a feel for you.
OCS at my school aren't very helpful and I have pretty much shut them out. They aren't very approachable and did some things that rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm just curious on this. At what point in time do your references no longer need to be on your resume? Coming out of UG, I still have them there because when I have needed to submit my resume before, I was not necessarily given a separate way to provide my references. I don't have much WE yet so I know that once that section starts to grow, I will have to cut back somewhere and my references would be the easiest spot.
