Law School Resume Question

Post by Utterson » Thu Jul 16, 2015 1:24 pm

Hey guys,

I'm preparing my law school resume for LS applications. I have been out of undergrad for two years total. Upon graduation, I worked an internship position for three months. I was lucky enough to receive a full time offer. The offer was not effective until 8 months later. So, during this interim, I took a very intense self study course to pass a very difficult series of certification examinations (Think, CPA and CFA have an unwanted child). I also worked unofficially for my dad's small business. He didn't pay me or anything, but it was def something that interested me (not law related, but still cool IMO).

My question is how do I present this stuff on my resume for LS apps? I was thinking that the self study courses can be classified as education since I DID earn a very difficult professional designation. Also, the work with Dad can be volunteer work? I think that classifying that as volunteer work shows I knew it was my duty to help out my family and try to help the business.

EDIT: Since then, I have been working at said job for the other year and two months

Any opinions are welcome.

Ultimately it doesn't matter very much. Just make sure its presented clearly and accurately and it won't make a lick of difference.

Did the same thing for my dad and had no problems with my resume. Just listed it as an internship. Didn't say whether it was paid or not.

Same here - I worked for a family business and listed it as an internship under work experience.
