Does Berkeley measure softs like how Stanford and Yale do?

I.E. You have to have done something particularly impressive, and that impressive feat is crucial to getting in (aside from having numbers significantly above the median, which for YS can't be much, so this is basically ruled out except for Berkeley).

Additionally, I understand that GPA is pretty important to Berkeley too. Does having a 75th percentile GPA go much farther in applying to Cal than it would at any other school?

The class profile suggests being female is a very strong soft at Berk.

Just anecdotally speaking from ASW and other things, Berkeley had probably the most diversity of student experiences of any school I visited: there were plenty of KJDs, but there were also many folks who were 5+ years out of college (and had done some pretty interesting stuff in the meanwhile). And judging by their medians, which are surprisingly similar to UCLA's, they probably do admit people with less than stellar numbers if they're otherwise interesting.

As far as GPA, yes California schools (including Cal) care about it a lot. However, it's important to remember that a good GPA tends to be much more common among applicants than a good LSAT.

actually, Boalt is rather predictable, at least in the sense that it tends to accept similar profiles year-after-year (women*, non-trads, people who have overcome adversity, particularly if URM...). Where it differs from the others in the T14 is much less concern with LSAT. Boalt can be more choosy for softs (with is focus on GPA and good life stories) since it is arguably the second best LS in the nation west of the Mississippi.

(*Cal has been favoring female apps for at least 4 decades.)
