What are my chances at top 50 school?
I am an AA URM with a 155 and 3.4 GPA. Have 5 years of work experience since graduating and mid to late 20’s. Lots of volunteer hours as well. What are my chances at a top 50 school?

With a 155, I'm sure a couple top 50s will bite - but the schools within the top 50 range - we could be talking about WUSTL, ND or University of Utah (no shade, just not WUSTL/ND)economicsnme wrote:I am an AA URM with a 155 and 3.4 GPA. If you get a 160, top 20 is likely.
If you get a 165, t14 is likely.

The term "top 50 school" is essentially meaningless. What matters is going to a school that fits your goals.
You will almost certainly need to retake.

Nah. F-that. You need to retake.. Get a 160. I had similar work experience as you and had a gpa a lil higher than you but a LSAT below a 150 and still got a full-ride at a T50. If you get a 160 you will get into T20s probably with money. Anything above a 160 is where you need to be. You don't even need to waste your time asking about where you will end up. Until you take that LSAT 3x then you should not apply. It is not worth it if you don't get a full-ride. And with you being black, you must take advantage of the URM admissions boost. At a 155 and 3.4 you won't be going to the type of schools that you could be going to.economicsnme wrote:I am an AA URM with a 155 and 3.4 GPA. You'll probably slip in somewhere, but matriculating would be foolish because it would be way too expensive.
Also, what Romo said about T50 being meaningless.
Where do you have ties?
Where do you want to practice?
What are your career goals?
Retaking is the right call here. A higher score + your URM status can get you some really good options.

I agree except I'd add the caveat: go where you want to practice at a reasonable cost.romothesavior wrote:The term "top 50 school" is essentially meaningless. What matters is going to a school that fits your goals.

Above a 160 would be sufficient for a t-14. Whether a little more work is worth the difference between Cardozo or NYU is up to them. On the one hand they can have a great career, but on the other hand studying is boring.

At this point im not sure retaking is a possibility for me. It will be delaying me another year and i cant afford to do that. I took the first one in october and got a 146 then took it again in december and jumped to a 155. I have to work full time to support myself so i couldnt really afford to take any extra time off.

What do you mean you can't afford to? You can't afford to go to law school with a 155 is how it should be.economicsnme wrote:At this point im not sure retaking is a possibility for me. Well seeing as you can't go to Harvard in the 1960's, this isn't happening.economicsnme wrote: My interests is in Constitutional Law

Retake and reapply or don't go. Work for another year, kill the LSAT, apply early in the cycle, and go to a T14 on scholarship or a solid regional for free.
Absent that, don't go to law school.

We don't have time for your bull shit excuses. You sure as hell can afford to wait another year. No one is telling you to go now. You are not a special snow flake. Most people work when it comes to studying for the LSAT and GMAT. Plus if you want to go to law school, you could easily find a new job. Tell them you will start in a month and study for the LSAT during that time or take some vacation time. But no one has time for your excuses.....economicsnme wrote:At this point im not sure retaking is a possibility for me. It will be delaying me another year and i cant afford to do that. well that's a nice jump, congrats. you should consider what you anticipate doing in constitutional law, and whether there's an attainable job before investing.economicsnme wrote:At this point im not sure retaking is a possibility for me. 165 on the LSAT will get you tens of thousands of dollars in scholarship money to a T10 law school
retake. there are no other smart options
