On-Campus Interview?

Post by letoile » Wed Jan 21, 2015 5:39 am

I am considering whether or not to sign up for an on-campus interview at Northwestern. There are no other interview options (e.g. Skype, alumni) remaining at this point in the admission cycle.

My GPA is at their median and my LSAT between their 25th and 50th.

I interview very well. I am hesitant because Northwestern's interview process is by self-selection rather than by invitation, so if my chances are minute I would prefer to save the trip to Chicago. I live on the West Coast. I could comfortably gather the resources to make such a trip.

Thanks for any input.

The interview was short and laid back. A trip from the west coast might make it seem pretty underwhelming. What exactly is your GPA? If it's above or at a 3.75 you might have a decent chance. Are you K-JD? If you are the interview might be more important.

If your GPA is below a 3.75 the credited response might be to retake if you want NU.

I wouldn't opt for an on-campus interview. There's a very good chance you will end up interviewing with a student (not an admissions officer), and your interview will be 15-20 minutes.

Given that the interview process is an opt-in process and that students conduct the majority of them, I can't imagine the interviews holding a lot of weight in admissions.

That said, if you fancy a weekend trip to Chicago to visit friends, family, etc., it wouldn't hurt to interview. But don't make the trip expressly for a 15 minute interview with a student.

Would it be wise to include an addendum explaining that I am unable to make the trip from the West Coast but would be happy to communicate via Skype? I'd like to demonstrate strong interest in the school.
