2 page vs 4 page PS
Working on my PS at the moment. Some schools want up to 2 pages and others want 2 to 4. Will schools that only want 2 pages look down on a PS that is around 4 pages. Or should I write one thats 2 pages and another that is around 4

If a school only wants 2 pages, I definitely wouldn't send in one that is 4.Calbears123 wrote:Working on my PS at the moment. Some schools want up to 2 pages and others want 2 to 4. You should follow the page requirements for each school. It's up to you on whether you want to write two statements of a different length. I only wrote one 2 page essay and liked the simplicity of that.

Stick to 2 pages, imo. Concision will serve you well much longer than this application process.

Yeah stick to two, with a possible exception for Berkeley.

I made mine 1.5 pages, double space, size 12 font....and covered the last 20 years of my life. Growing up in the swamps, working as a diesel mechanic from age 14 while going to school, joining the military after 9/11, deployments, accomplishments....

Follow the school's instructions. ABSOLUTELY do NOT submit a PS longer than they request/allow.
Deviating from a school's instructions in any way tells the adcomms:
1. I don't respect your instructions, and by extension your school, enough to follow your page limit, or
2. I didn't read your instructions, or
3. I am not a good enough writer to cut my shit down.
No matter how awesome you think your PS is, it can be cut in length and will probably be better for it.

Thanks for the advice, sounds like I'll stick to just 1 2 page paper, makes it easier on me anyways

I can say that I seldom have read a personal statement where anything after the 3rd page was value-added/worth it.
I'll add, though, that anything LESS than two pages (especially double-spaced) is way too short, IMO.
