Diversity Statement getting over addiction Forum

This is kind of an odd question, but do y'all think I should write a diversity statement about overcoming a crack addiction at 17. My mother was addicted to it and my dad was sick. and she would go off on binges w her bf and leave me at the house. One day she came home, and i was especially depressed. So she offered me some. I did it pretty heavily for a week and then quit cold turkey and got my s**t together. Would this qualify as overcoming adversity?
