So I received a score of 173 on the September LSAT... a score that was far below my expectations. I had never scored below a 177 on my last few practice exams. It turned out, I had misread a single direction in a logic game, and that alone took 4 points off my score

I had always thought that logic games were my strength (I seldom missed more than a question), and so, needless to say, I was disappointed.
But-of course, excuses are excuses, and I vowed to myself that I'd make up for this by retaking the LSAT in December.
My original plan, then, had been to submit applications before thanksgiving with my original LSAT, and then retake the LSAT in December (I already registered) and hopefully, send the updated score to schools. But now, my counselor tells me that if you decide to take the December LSAT then schools will delay making decisions until the new scores come out - and this delay could be far more adverse than a few extra points on the LSAT. And, since I have been busy with applications, I haven't really had time to stay fresh with the LSAT, meaning that there's no guarantee that I would receive a marginally higher score. I do agree with her points, but I am confused.
I really want to go to one of the top 3 law schools, which was the reason that LSAT was vital for me... my GPA only stands at a 3.70, below the expected score for such students. I wish to do anything to maximize my chances.
Would retaking the LSAT and getting a few points higher be better, or would submitting earlier and hoping for the best be better?
I want to know what you guys think.
