Deferrals on LSAC form

Post by Blythe17 » Sat Nov 01, 2014 3:47 pm

So as I was applying through LSAC I realized there is a deferral option under "Program Information." I was planning to request a deferral but am willing to attend straight away if denied. But now I'm wondering: would it hurt my chances (even a little) at all in getting accepted for the upcoming term if I indicate a preference to attend the term after (i.e. get a deferral)? I could see adcomms being more hesitant to admit me if I request a deferral, perhaps for yield protection purposes.

And if so, then what should i do? Apply first and request a deferral only after getting accepted (if accepted)? On UMich's app it says the deferral deadline is not until Feb.

Thanks all, you guys rock.

Why are you even applying now if you're planning on deferring for a year? Your application will presumably be stronger a year from now with your added experience on your resume.
