I'm a Splitter 2.8GPA, 177 LSAT
Hi guys. I need some help. I went to college on and off for 15+ years and just screwed up. Just young and dumb. I got serious about two years ago and aced all classes I took and graduated. Took my LSATs and managed a pretty good grade.
Here's the caveat for me.
I am hispanic american and the only college graduate in my family. Work experience. This is the interesting part. I have worked 14 years on an administrative and paralegal level at top tier law firms. When I say top tier, I'm talking the creme de la creme of law. All ranking within the top 15 in the US, the most prestigious having been Davis Polk.
The current law firm I am at, I am friendly and know a couple of the high ranking partners and I think could pull a recommendation. I did not want to necessarily reach out, but if I must I will.
Clearly having worked in law for so many years and having worked in a variety of departments ranging from Intellectual Property, M&A, Corporate, Restructuring, Litigation and Pro Bono; working with paras, working for partners, associates and clients, I have a pretty solid idea if this is the career for me jaja.
What do you think my chances are for a top tier school?

reasonable odds at gulc at sticker
good odds at nu at sticker/$
strong regionals with $$/$$$
some mid 2s/high 170s got $$$ at wustl last cycle
eta: if you're urm odds may improve

OP, it sounds like you may qualify as a URM (admittedly not my area of expertise, and it might depend on exactly what nationality you are; there is a forum dedicated to figuring this out, though). Assuming URM, you have a decent shot at swinging at least one T6 as well as money from the T10 on down. HYS is probably out, but crazier things have happened so applying would be worth a shot (especially if you can get some fee waivers). Splitters' cycles are notoriously difficult to predict (even more so for URM splitters), so it's tough to say, but I would blanket the T14 and maybe WUSTL (for potential scholarship leverage) and see what happens.Brut wrote:reasonable odds at gulc at sticker

I have read somewhere that those of Mexican descent enjoy the highest URM boost out of those who are hispanic (I may be wrong). Nevertheless 177/URM will only help you, regardless of the level of "boost" you get. I do agree with both of the people that I quoted above. 100% blanket the T14.hoos89 wrote:OP, it sounds like you may qualify as a URM (admittedly not my area of expertise, and it might depend on exactly what nationality you are; there is a forum dedicated to figuring this out, though). What type of hispanic are you? If you are one of the types that gets a boost (MA, PR) you will likely have many T14 acceptances, with $. If you aren't, a regional with $$$ or NU/UVA/Penn at sticker are likely your best options.

Forget the naysayers. Blanket the T14 and a few regionals for negotiation with your T14 options. You'll have a nice cycle. A 177 is gold ITE.
