Re: Thoughts on IIT Kent- Chicago?
how many retakes do you have left for the LSAT? with that GPA you can get large/full scholarships from much better schools if you improve your LSAT score.

I only took it once but don't have time to redo it with my full schedule I've got right now.

I know some guys who got CS degrees from ITT Tech. I'd say go for it.

Scoring a mere 3-4 points higher is a full ride at UIUC. More than that and you're in the running for Chicago and Northwestern. Retaking the LSAT is the best investment you'll ever make. A little bit of prep over the next couple months could save you $200k+ and give you much better employment outcomes than Kent.

Re: Thoughts on IIT Kent- Chicago?
You've got a great point. UIUC would be a great choice for me I think, but I really don't want to pay six figures for it. Either way, I'm applying for sure to UIUC!theramblingfool wrote:Do you want to pay zero dollars for a liability? Real employment after graduation is (barely) better than a coin flip, with more than 20% underemployed.ashleyrama wrote:I have a 3.81 GPA and an LSAT score of a 161 (which I am not retaking) and am currently finishing my senior year of college as an English major (in Illinois). I'm interested in pursuing IP law but I have no science background which leaves that opportunity narrow. I'm thinking I could get their full-tuition scholarship that they offer, but I'm curious if anyone has attended Kent and what the employment stats are after? Also, how is the law school itself? Any opinions really would be appreciated. I'm all over the place mentally, between wanting to not pay an arm and a leg and also not wanting to attend a low ranked school
Or would you rather pay some amount of money for something worth more than nothing? With your numbers, you could probably shoot for UIUC in Urbana-Champaign, which I think is worlds better in terms of employment prospects (not to mention pretty low cost of living, cost of attendance, and they're generally pretty generous with scholarships).
EDIT: you're above median with LSAT and above 75th percentile with GPA. Admission to UIUC is yours to lose.

The only problem is literally not having the time to put in. I work and am trying to maintain an excellent GPA. I'm trying to be realistic here also.Dirigo wrote:Then don't go to law school. Then take a year off. You'll thank us later. It would be such a shame to waste your GPA on a TT.ashleyrama wrote:The only problem is literally not having the time to put in. What was your LG score, if you don't mind me asking? Just do a couple of games every few days and knock that section out of the park for a 163 at the very least.
I hope I'm not being rude. You're just a potentially really strong applicant who needs a push. It would be stuck with a crappy job (assuming you get a job) in a few years and wonder "what if."

Hence I am applying next cycle. One year = $150k. I'd say it's worth the wait.

Agree with the others - retake. Don't waste your GPA. I retook and although I was initially anxious about it/didn't want to give up my life, it really paid off. I spent like $300 (for the retake and extra prep materials) and 2 extra months of my life on retaking, but it will probably pay off in over $100,000 plus extra opportunities/possibility of better career outcome at a higher ranked school.

Re: Thoughts on IIT Kent- Chicago?
Please take time off and retake. Law school is not going anywhere, and even a few points on the LSAT could have enormous ramifications on your career. It's honestly hard to overstate this. Please don't waste that GPA. Also, IP law is going to be a tough road to hoe even from a top school because you have an English major, so you may also want to seriously consider why you are going to law school. If you really want to practice copyright law or something, well...that's going to be tough. Especially from Kent.ashleyrama wrote:The only problem is literally not having the time to put in. I am confirming that I have seen this lol. Thank you very much for your input I am really weighing out all of my options here and I appreciate your personal story to add more credibility to the idea of taking time off and retaking.

I'm not entirely set on copyright law, but I just know I want to do something with business, commercial, or IP. I know there's overlap and naturally I don't know entirely what I'm talking about or even what I want since I haven't taken any law classes to know for certain. I will definitely consider taking time off to retake it because after all, what is another year?

I certainly don't think you're being rude, I just think you know more than I do about this lol. On my LG I missed 5 so there is room for improvement there. A year off from school would be lovely also considering the commitment law school will be.

Yeah! I took a few years off and I think it is one of the best decisions I have made. No use rushing things. It will give you time to get some work experience (which will make you a stronger candidate for law school and for getting jobs afterward) and solidify your goals. Best of luck to you!

You were all for retaking your 160 back in July, but I guess sloth set in and now you're giving bad advice in an attempt to affirm your own choices.
