Re: I Need Your Wisdom on This Weird Situation?
So your weird situation is that you did worse on a test than you expected?
Interesting.
Interesting.

Your softs will not pull you out and retaking will not be too late. Study harder and come back in December.Mixednuts wrote:haus wrote:So your weird situation is that you did worse on a test than you expected?

Nope. It's that I don't know whether to apply early and hope my softs pull me out or to retake and risk being too late.

In all my years of TLS, I can't think of a single time when an on-topic thread titled a "weird" or "unique" or "special" or "unusual" situation delivered.Mixednuts wrote:haus wrote:So your weird situation is that you did worse on a test than you expected?

Unless you spent several years as an personal assistant to POTUS, or are a little girl who was shot in the head and was then awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (or for the purpose of this thread, a little girl who was shot in the head and then won any Nobel prize), it is likely that your softs will matter very little.malleus discentium wrote:Your softs will not pull you out and retaking will not be too late. Oh, come on, really? God this place can be awful.
OP, if you have the time to prepare for December, do so. It can only help, and admissions are not something you want to take a gamble on. Your softs are very unlikely to compensate for a score that is so far below the medians, however fantastic I'm sure they are.
However, if you do decide to retake, you need to get your PT average up. Get it up to mid 170s. If your first test was a 166, there is no reason to be averaging a 170. That's ridiculous. Get it together and do some serious studying this time.
Most of us scored a solid five or more points lower than our averages, so it apparently isn't such an anomaly. You need to account for that possibility in your re-take.

Usually if the OP is non-awful/annoying/snowflakey then people will be cool. When the OP comes out guns blazing then people tend to descend upon him/her. The people you're saying are being awful are also some of the most helpful and/or funny around here IMO.sfoglia wrote:Oh, come on, really? God this place can be awful.

OP- retake, up to 2 more times if need be. Feel free to sit out a cycle. Law school isn't going anywhere.

Re: I Need Your Wisdom on This Weird Situation?
If any of you had to retake, then I'm sure you can all remember how unsettling it was when you received your first disappointing score. It's not surprising that anyone would want to hold out hope that their application is salvageable before hitting the books again, especially the morning after.BigZuck wrote: Usually if the OP is non-awful/annoying/snowflakey then people will be cool. I'm sure you all respond to a ton of posts like this a day, so, I get it. But, to a point.

Are you wealthy or a GI bill eligible vet, making sticker price irrelevant?
Even if you can squeak into some top schools as is, you'd be leaving a ton of money on the table by not retaking. So retake, unless you're one of the few people for whom money is not a consideration
