Why this guy was rejected at BU, Fordham, and UIUC, but was waitlist->accepted at Northwestern?

Ditto for this guy

Is BU anti-splitter? I have similar numbers and was hoping it could be a safety school.
I also heard UCLA is anti-splitter, but this guy was WL->accepted; should I throw them an app?

Re: Can someone explain
Hard to predict a cycle with such a large split like that.. That's why people suggest applying very broadly if you have a sub 3.0 and a 170+.

Looks like he applied kind of late in the cycle too. The end of January.

It sort of depends on what a school needs to maintain its target median. In general, a high LSAT is more valuable than a high GPA, just because they're more rare.

I was a splitter. You run into a lot of YP from schools outside the T14 or 20 or whatever. BU, Fordham, and the like aren't getting many 170+ LSAT's, even if they do have a poor GPA unless the kid is from there or something. Usually, even with a horrid GPA, someone with a 170+ will have better options than those type schools, and the schools know that.
