LSAC FORUM DRESS CODE?

Hello everyone!

Not sure if this post is appropriate on this forum (sorry if it's misplaced)

I am attending the Miami LSAC forum on Saturday. I went last year and I know most people were in suits. I was wondering if you could give be your opinion on this:

If I were to wear that with a statement necklace such as this: http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/pr ... =186158002 and a pair of heels, is that appropriate? I kind of want to "stand out" and steer away from the boring black suit. Please let me know your comments No disrespect on the suit! I wore one last year!

No one will remember who you are. Just do business casual and don't get in anyone's face.

I agree with the business casual. I wore black slacks, a patterned top, and a cardigan with flats when I went to the Chicago forum last month. A few men here and there were wearing suits, but I did not see any women dressed in them. Nor dresses like the one you linked to. If you're going to wear that, dress it down. I don't think you should stand out with your outfit, but rather with your personality that's how they remember you!

I literally don't think it matters at all. Anything that isn't straight up offensive will be fine.

I wore jeans/shorts t shirt to everything from pre-law to orientation to every event throughout law school except for interviews and graduation (didn't need to really). You never have to dress up ever except for trying to get a job.

In all seriousness business casual will be fine. Be professional if you're worried (better to overdress than underdress).

This is always the proper approach. But you are still overestimating the importance of clothing for a student.

Time to start dressing for the legal world, not for sorority house dinners.

Tone down the cutsieness of the dress (i.e. dark-colored sheath dress--edit: with blazer or cardigan--ok, white fit-and-flare not so much) and stay away from statement jewelry.

That said, the LSAC forum won't matter so much. But that outfit would not be ok for interviews or biz-cas employer events in law school.

This is exactly why I voted suit even though I said a suit was unnecessary.

Were most people really in suits? I have been to like 50 of these (at least) and my guess would be that 1 in 20 are in suits.

Casual is fine. Business casual too.

Just an update, since I had the forum on Saturday:

I ended up wearing the white dress from banana with a statement necklace: --LinkRemoved--

I was really happy with my choice because a lot of admissions officers and deans (women, of course) actually complemented the necklace! A lot of people were very casual (wearing jeans & tees), others were in business casual like me, and very very few suits.

For future reference, I would call that dress + necklace combo (though very pretty) more like cocktail party wear than business casual, honestly.
