LSAC GPA: Study Abroad Grades?

Post by SoapyIllusion » Wed Oct 08, 2014 7:46 pm

So I have searched this subject and have found conflicting answers. From what I understand, if your transcript shows the transferred coursework as mere credit then it won't factor into your LSAC GPA. On the other hand, if the transferred classes are included with a grade on your home transcript, it counts in LSAC GPA calculation? What if it doesn't have a grade value on your home institutions transcript but you send your foreign transcript to LSAC/law school? Is it then calculated into your LSAC gpa?

Edit: Also, it isn't through a program like IES, etc. It's a direct enrollment in a legitimate university where the local students attend.

I called LSAC about this, and they said it depends on your program and your university's policy with converting back

LSAC only requires separate transcripts from U.S. sponsored universities abroad (ex: Temple University's Japan Campus or the American University of Paris). In a program like IES or CEA (an international abroad institution), LSAC does not require separate transcripts if your university accepts that credit. Whether or not your grades from your abroad program count depends on whether or not your university counts them. If your university transcript shows the abroad credit as pass fail, and it is clearly stated that these classes are from a university that is not a U.S. sponsored univeristy abroad, those grades will not count in you GPA. This should be the same with a direct enrollment in a "legitimate university" abroad.

I just feel it would be unfair if my grades did count since the university I will be attending counts a 70 as an "A." But I will take what I can get haha.
