How much does social media/google affect law schools?

Post by melanie2503 » Fri Sep 26, 2014 12:40 am

I have a 3.8 GPA, two minors, and an above average LSAT score. However, my question is how much social media would affect one's chances of getting into law school? Or what about being featured on Maxim, Ford Models, etc? Social media can be altered and changed, but being googled is different. I know that some law schools google their applicants and was wondering how much it would adversely affect me.

Thanks!

There is anecdotal evidence that bad behavior struck people under review. Stats on it, who knows. Bad behavior consisted of underage drinking, drugs, etc. Being a model, who knows you might get featured on class profile.

I don't think it would adversely affect you unless it's something nefarious. If you run a blog advocating for racial purity, for instance, then I can see it harming you. If you're a model, I don't see that adversely affecting you. Heck, some schools may even think that's cool and brag about you on their "meet our diverse class" profile. Porn may be a different story (yet I don't see that as disqualifying you either).
It really depends, but on balance, I don't think it will have impact your admissions chances unless it involves a big C&F issue that will likely give you trouble with the bar.

Clean up your google reviews if you're so concerned. It's not that hard (google it to learn how).

Reputation management? That's hella expensive. For most people getting fiverr gigs are the best way to go for lono pyramiding good links to the top.

Yeah reputation management is extremely expensive and not fool proof, even if done right. Honestly OP I don't think you have anything to worry about. If your stats are solid your outcomes will most likely be solid.

No not reputation management; you can manually get links taken down. I would explain how but apparently I should be charging for this.
