Targeted LORs
Do law schools care whether they see the LSAC rec form with the bar code saying "To all law schools" or "insert specific name"? I am wondering if sending out only a general LOR to all my schools is going to hurt me, i.e. show no specific interest in any school.

No. Don't sweat it. The vast majority of applicants send out only general LOR's "to all law schools".parkcity wrote:Do law schools care whether they see the LSAC rec form with the bar code saying "To all law schools" or "insert specific name"? As far as I know, the only school that openly says they prefer targeted LORs is Stanford.

Thanks! I found a TLS thread from a while ago that had a quote from the website stating that, but looked at it just now and cannot seem to locate that specific information stating the preference… Perhaps it's no longer the case?hillz wrote:As far as I know, the only school that openly says they prefer targeted LORs is Stanford.

Got it. I'm an idiot. Eh, but does it make sense if the recommender did not go to Stanford or taught there him/herself?hereisonehand wrote:it's right there on their website https://www.law.stanford.edu/degrees/jd/jd_application (under #5)parkcity wrote:Thanks! Sure, they can emphasize how you really want to go to Stanford, and the bare fact that you are willing to bother your letter writers for a targeted letter shows that you mean business to at least some extentparkcity wrote:Got it. Re: Targeted LORs
Just wondering: have a decent amount of people been admitted to Stanford WITHOUT targeted letters? I wonder how important it really is in the scheme of things.

I've been wondering the same thing, Dirigo. I'm planning on having only one of my letters be targeted...that is, if I even do well enough next Saturday to merit actually applying.

That's a good plan. You'll be great next Saturday.hillz wrote:I've been wondering the same thing, Dirigo. I'm planning on having only one of my letters be targeted...that is, if I even do well enough next Saturday to merit actually applying.
I'm taking the December test so I have time to troll one of my professors again about a targeted letter this time.
