LSAT needed for PENN ED with a 3.42 GPA?
I know I should get the highest lsat possible for my September lsat but I was wondering what do you guys think a good score to aim for to get into penn ed with a 3.42 GPA?
Obviously a 180 would be nice but a good response would be greatly appreciated. I've seen my lsn an lawschoolnumbefs and I think a 170 should get me in. Is this a wrong assumption?

Just wondering, why are you interested in EDing Penn?

This. Getting stuck at sticker is almost never a good idea and you lose your leverage by EDing.lc39 wrote:Just wondering, why are you interested in EDing Penn?
Plus, it's pointless to target any score. Just prepare as much as you can and target a 180. You get what you get (or retake).

Obviously aim for a 180, but it seems hopeless if a 180 is necessary. A practical goal is not a bad idea.
As for ED, OP's own call but risky move

I hope you're rich OP, even if you score a high LSAT and get accepted, sticker is a doozy!

I get that you could get some good scholarships at other T14 schools, but let's not act like paying sticker at Penn is a death sentence.

How is ED a bad idea? He wants to maximize his chances of getting into Penn and how would he get good scholarship money with a 3.42? You guys are the ones who have always said that T14 sticker is a better investment than a full ride at every school ranked below UCLA/USC!
ED, to me, is the truth if your numbers are weak and you can take that... to the bank... where you'll need to go anyway to take out those loans.

I'd aim to be at or above their 75th percentile, if you're hurting them on one end, you should be helping them on the other.
If you pull off a 173+ I'd personally advise against the ED, you'd stand a shot at RD at all but HYS and B. Plus lower schools like Michigan might throw some money your way.

Re: LSAT needed for PENN ED with a 3.42 GPA?
Its a bad idea because even at a school like UPenn, where a significant amount of the class ends up in big-law, and ED acceptance almost always guarantees sticker cost (except at schools like NU), and even though OP will prob get that 160k job, he'll also have close to 300k debt, so he'll have no way out for a fair amount of time, because only a big law job will pay enough to pay off his loans. Then he'll be in the position of being stuck in big-law working 80+ hours a week, terrified of making any mistakes because he cant do anything else, and actually live on that money.DaRascal wrote:How is ED a bad idea? Outside of HYS or a guaranteed LRAP job, I'd have a hard time justifying sticker anywhere.

Haha, I'm far from a troll! I just ED'ed to a school in the MVPB range this cycle with weak numbers (fitting to improve one of them) so I know where the OP is coming from. He doesn't want to be on the outside looking in come the spring time. And I've never heard of anyone on here going to BU or George Mason over Cornell or GT.

If you have the grades/score to ED MVPB, you almost certainly could get a significant amount of money from a lower-ranked T14 or a full ride at a strong regional. If you're going to ED, do it to NU for the chance at a full ride there.DaRascal wrote:Ti Malice wrote: That's very far from what the majority of TLS posters say, you idiot troll.

I get and agree with the whole anti-sticker crusade but it's Penn we are talking about here. Penn will give you a great, great shot at BL. I don't think it's a good idea at sticker, but not life-ruining or anything.
I do think 3.42/169 gets in ED.
I did not get in RD with 3.6ish/173. I have very strong philly ties and wrote a why penn. Penn is weird.

rascal's point that 3.42 = poor scholly offers = so why not ed is flame
plenty of 3.4x get $$ within the t14
it'll come down to the lsat
your gpa isn't low enough that you can only get t14 at sticker
i got nyu + $$ w/ the exact same gpa, 3.42
don't ed penn

Re: LSAT needed for PENN ED with a 3.42 GPA?
I think the argument is that while, yes, Penn will give you a great shot at BL and therefore the ability to make your loan payments, it will involve years of grinding while living like a grad student. For many people, it's just not worth it, even if you were 100% guaranteed a BL job in writing prior to taking on the debt. That, and 300k in debt is just crushing, both in terms of your mental health and your finances. I'm not sure many 0Ls, especially k-jds, really grasp that. It doesn't sound so bad in the abstract, but talk to people who actually have to look at a black and white statement with all those zeroes. They're usually not very zen about it.phillywc wrote:I get and agree with the whole anti-sticker crusade but it's Penn we are talking about here. Penn will give you a great, great shot at BL. I'd go so far as to say sticker anywhere is dumb, excluding HYS people who are diehard PI types and can rely on LRAP.

Re: LSAT needed for PENN ED with a 3.42 GPA?
I would think long and hard before choosing a full ride to BU over Penn. It depends on your goals. Penn offers opportunities that BU doesn't, simple as that. That might be worth the cost to some.
And honestly I think people overstate how hard Biglaw is compared to other attorney jobs. If you want to be an attorney, be ready to have a tough work schedule. I work as a paralegal at a small firm and it's not a walk in the park, believe me. The new associates are worked extremely hard and the work is far from interesting or engaging. 8-6 is standard, and the pay is nowhere near Biglaw standards.
I think the assumption that any job outside of Biglaw is far easier than a corporate job is overstated on these boards.
