olympic athlete- will it affect my application?
hi guys,
first time posting here, but i was wondering if you could answer a quick question for me.
i graduated class of 2010 from a top 5 undergraduate institute with a 3.6 in economics. i was also a D-1 athlete, and have spent the last 4 years training for the 2016 olympics. because of the time demands for training, i haven't held a job that one would consider impressive- mostly part time things to put together enough money to train.
my lsat is 170. if i make the 2016 olympic squad (obviously nobody knows until that year if they will. not trying to jinx it here, but just wondering about applications), will that affect what tier of law school i could apply for? all other things being equal (personal statement, etc. etc.)
thanks for any help! i've been really curious about this for a while now

^Definitely.
And it should be a pretty interesting soft regardless.
Don't know if it'll help you outperform too much, but it could!

Isn't he already competetive at those schools without the soft (maybe excluding B because of the gpa)?JamMasterJ wrote:Yeah I think this is something that would bump you from dncg to mvpb

I think it goes from competitive to lock. Not sure it's enough for ccn thoughWinston1984 wrote:Isn't he already competetive at those schools without the soft (maybe excluding B because of the gpa)?JamMasterJ wrote:Yeah I think this is something that would bump you from dncg to mvpb

I think he would easily get CCN and have a decent shot at HYS. A few more LSAT points would always help, but it sounds like that might not be the top priority right now.

It's bigger impact is going to be with job placement. This would be true in any field, not just law.

thanks for the feedback!
when i took the lsat, i didn't really prepare for it that much (for a number of reasons i won't get into here). what kind of score would i need to move myself up to the next bracket? or make myself a lock? (regardless of whether that's into CCN territory or HYS territory....even though that's one hell of a stretch)

For YS, retake in 2020 with anything less than a Bronze.
In all seriousness, as far as softs go, it's up there with the best of them. For H and CCN down it probably gives the equivalent of a 1-2 point bump in LSAT score. For Y and S, you're out with your current LSAT, but with a few points higher on a retake, it's the kind of soft that could likely get you in over the other mid 170's scorers.

Yea Olympic athlete with those numbers is easy CCN. Olympic athlete plus a retake to 174+ will most likely land one or two of HYS.
An Olympic athlete is one of those things I can imagine that Yale would love to put up on that almost-pretentious (yea I'm jealous) class profile page.
