Spent one year at a random college, screwed up big time!HELP
Hey everyone. I'm seeking some advice:
I thought I was all set up with my undergraduate cumulative GPA being 3.43 calculated from my community college gpa and my eventual institution that I transferred to and received my degree from.
Until...lsac emailed me telling me not to forget the school I went to for my freshman year, in which I was not prepared for school at all..ended up getting something like a 1.6 gpa total.
In short, I had to send in my transcript from there, I wasn't planning on disclosing that school to lsac, but guess I had to..I pretty much forgot about that whole part of my educational career. So, it lowered my cumulative gpa down to 3.08.
Anything I can do? Or am I screwed. Received a 152 on the June lsat and retaking this September, nerves got to me..so I plan on doing much better.
Sorry this is a bit long winded, any advice is much appreciated.

Your only recourse is to contact the institution and see if there is any way to have those grades removed from your transcript. If not, you're stuck with them.
Also, you screwed up big time not telling LSAC about it. There could be possible C&F issues if it seems like you willfully withheld the information in order to inflate your GPA.

It's not that I willfully withheld this information, it was just so long ago (2008-2009) and I don't even consider the school as part of my educational career, so it never crossed my mind to report it as I don't report it for anything else. It's not like I even partied a lot, I just wasn't responsible and didn't go to class. I'm kicking myself.
Unfortunately, it seems like I am paying for that now.
Thanks for the reply.

That's only 5 years ago. This could look really bad, but it might not lead to anything. Someone else might know about the particulars.Premier626 wrote:It's not that I willfully withheld this information, it was just so long ago (2008-2009) and I don't even consider the school as part of my educational career, so it never crossed my mind to report it as I don't report it for anything else. So long ago? That was, like, five years ago, not long before you reformed yourself and started on a new four-year path. It's not like you went to some school for a semester in 1993 and then had a whole career before returning to school.Premier626 wrote:It's not that I willfully withheld this information, it was just so long ago (2008-2009) and I don't even consider the school as part of my educational career, so it never crossed my mind to report it as I don't report it for anything else. Although no one will buy your bullshit excuse about how "long ago" your fucked up year was, I seriously doubt it's going to be a C&F issue for you. It actually helps you that LSAC noticed; it prevented you from failing to report the information to law schools to which you applied (and then failing to send the transcript to the law school you got into).
Anyway, the best advice for you is to retake the LSAT.

as arklaw said, see if anything can be done about those grades
start thinking of an addendum for when you apply
double down on your lsat studying efforts, you'll need to kill it

You'll probably need an LSAT in the mid-160s to make law school worth it.

One thing to keep in mind is that everyone else applying potentially has a sob story. By all means try to get those grades removed but at the same time man up and own it. We're all responsible for the decisions we make - regretful or not. Some guy out there might have a DUI on his record he has to disclose. Someone else might have had a horrible semester because she was sexually assaulted. PTSD for a vet coming back and trying to get re-acclimated. Others have a spotless record and has a job with Daddy all lined up once he/she graduates. It will inevitably take all kinds.
