Race for Transparency
As some of you may know, I'm the executive director of Law School Transparency. We are an advocacy group (mission to to make entry to the legal profession more transparent, affordable, and fair). We also provide resources for prospective law students so that they can make more informed choices about whether and where to go to law school. In the next month or so, we'll be introducing a new podcast series that profiles lawyers around the country so that people can have a better idea about why they want to become a lawyer, and have a clearer understanding of what they want to do. We'll also be introducing an app soon to help with the admissions process.
We are a nonprofit, but still need money to operate. As such, LST's newest board member -- Mike Spivey -- has decided to run a race on August 24th to raise money for our cause. His goal is to raise $10,000. He's made some great progress, but we have a long way to go. I hope some of you will decide to send some support our way. If you'd like to donate, please check out our race fundraising page.
Mike has been a long time supporter of LST’s mission, even before LST incorporated. While associate director of admissions at Vanderbilt, Mike and LST co-founder Patrick Lynch discussed rampant, false information about Vanderbilt’s job outcomes that had spread across a popular prospective student message board. In March 2008, Vanderbilt’s admissions office and career services office jointly provided prospective students a list of where all graduates from the class of 2007 worked. The list was the impetus for me and Patrick to ask why other law schools were not so open and honest.
Again, we cannot survive without support from the people who benefit from our services, or the people who care about the future of the legal profession. We work hard on your behalf. Every bit helps, and every bit means a lot to me.
Kyle

Re: Race for Transparency
-24:00.
That is my goal time for an elevatious course that starts at 10,000 feet, so it will be 24 minutes of misery and possibly hypoxic hallucinations.
But, in all seriousness, this a great cause and what LST does has been phenomenal for prospective students. I would say that without LST, we would likely be looking at a vastly different media outlook and picture on the value of a JD today.
Please consider giving, even a small amount. I mean, just look at the site, we clearly take donations less than $2
Thanks everyone!
Mike

Mike can we get someone to shoot footage as you begin to hallucinate? I feel like this would be useful in the future for showing your level of commitment to LSTMikeSpivey wrote:-24:00.

Someone is attending with me, I can ask her to video tape. The hallucinations may start on the chairlift up to the race for all I know. Pray for me.observationalist wrote:Mike can we get someone to shoot footage as you begin to hallucinate? Re: Race for Transparency
As my race is in a few days, I wanted to take a second to thank everyone who gave to the cause.
When I first committed to doing this I came up with a few names of rain-maker lawyers who I would reach out to. I assumed the vast amount of money would come from these people.
I was wrong.
The majority came from the accumulated donations of everyone here. Each time someone gives as "anonymous", I assume that is almost always a law school applicant or student. In aggregate, you all gave more than the rain-makers at the elite firms. You have my sincere thanks, never in my wildest imagination did I think that so many here would give -- and I am deeply appreciative. The funds go entirely to LST, and, among other things will allow them to keep fundraising with the big-hitters so I don't have to keep asking you all (and running up mountains!) in the future. Although I may do a few more.
Thank you thank you!

Re: Race for Transparency
Race is over -- I came in 12th place for the 5k and first place for a portly looking 40 something.
It's still not too late to give to support LST so they can keep producing real data and help to hold schools accountable. Thanks again for the support.
