Probably shouldn't go to law school. Go into finance or something with decent job prospects.

They hire you anyway. Plenty of philosophy majors get ibanking with good enough grades. Doesn't your school have some kind of job fairs? What did you do during the sumner?HYSTime wrote:How can I go into finance/i-banking when didn't major in math/econ/business?arklaw13 wrote:Probably shouldn't go to law school. I did get an interview at Goldman Sachs.arklaw13 wrote:They hire you anyway. Plenty of philosophy majors get ibanking with good enough grades. Doesn't your school have some kind of job fairs? I did not let the interviewer talk. I said three things:
Look at my GPA - proof that I don't make mistakes.
Look at my GPA - proof that I am consistent.
Look at my GPA - proof that I will do whatever it takes.
They never called back.

Re: Graduated with a 4.0
Why are you posting on TLS if you want to go into finance? If you are serious about wanting to go to law school, study your butt off for the LSAT and get a 165+ LSAT score. With your GPA, you should get plenty of offers from T14 schools and good regional schools. If you are aiming for YHS, aim for a 170+. That's all that you should be focusing on right now.
If you don't want to go to law school and are more interested in finance/consulting/whatever, you should have plenty of options available with a 4.0 GPA, but I'm not sure TLS is the best place to come for that type of advice.

You read that I was studying for the LSAT in original post.Moneytrees wrote:Why are you posting on TLS if you want to go into finance? But my serious question is - my major is non-econ/math related. How can I break into the finance/i-banking business?

From a T20 (= WUSTL or Emory), he was on the outside looking in at any decent bank, and that was even if he hustled for the job from the beginning. Post-graduation, without a finance internship during college, he's dead in the water. He could probably get ShitFinance, but that's probably not worth it over a top law school.arklaw13 wrote:Probably shouldn't go to law school. Go into finance or something with decent job prospects.

I said T20 but in reality it is a T10.rayiner wrote:From a T20 (= WUSTL or Emory), he was on the outside looking in at any decent bank, and that was even if he hustled for the job from the beginning. Dartmouth would've given you a decent shot if you hustled early, but at this stage you've missed the boat. Dartmouth places great into ShitFinance though.HYSTime wrote:I said T20 but in reality it is a T10.rayiner wrote:From a T20 (= WUSTL or Emory), he was on the outside looking in at any decent bank, and that was even if he hustled for the job from the beginning. This is what I mean. GPA doesn't mean anything if you didn't major in Finance or Econ or have any experience in banking.rayiner wrote:Dartmouth would've given you a decent shot if you hustled early, but at this stage you've missed the boat. It means something to law schools. That's why there are so many finance wannabes in law school: they went to non-HYPS undergrads, but finance wouldn't sniff them even with their 3.8+. However law schools will lap up those non-peer credentials, and they're hoping they can get into a good bank via the back door.HYSTime wrote:This is what I mean. Just a quick question since we're on the topic:
How well do top publics like Berkeley place into finance? What about consulting, specifically MBB?
