UNC Law - In-State Advantage

Post by ASEE7890 » Mon Jul 28, 2014 11:46 am

How much of an admissions advantage does UNC give to in-state applicants? Any idea of acceptance rates, LSAT, UGPA numbers, etc. for in-state versus out-of-state? I am an NC resident, UGPA of 2.8 (from an Ivy, if that makes any difference), LSAT practice tests around 170, out of undergrad for quite a few years, Army veteran, have been running my own business.

It seems there are no takers. Does anyone know more generally how helpful it is to be an in-state applicant at a public law school?

Probably helps if they have to take a relatively large percentage of instate students.

I assume you're using military benefits to pay for school? If you hit 170+ then strongly consider EDing UVA

I can't speak to UNC really ( although I did get in, and I'm not a NC resident, with a 3.3 and a 168, also an Army veteran) but in-state at public universities definitely helps. LSN indicates I should have been rejected from UVA, but I got in as a Virginia resident.

When I applied to UNC, around 70 percent of the incoming class was reserved for NC residents. I got in as an out of state resident- GPA was around median but LSAT was higher than median. If you score anywhere near a 170, you should be a lock at UNC. Their LSAT median was a 161 this past cycle.
