Do seats open up for waitlisted students during orientation?
Hello everyone. I have a quick question about the waitlist. I have been on a particular school's waitlist for a while now. As we inch closer to orientation, I have a good indication that if just a few more spots open up, I could possibly be admitted. However, the question is do spots actually open up during orientation? Do people just not show up? Thanks for the replies in advance.

Yes they do. It isn't so much that people just decide screw law school... it is that the missing students are attending another school, and the original school didn't know. Also life does happen, so there are personal reasons why a student might be able to postpone attending school for a year during orientation.

I believe we had one person not show up for orientation last year. They didn't get replaced; I'm assuming it's because the class was already overbooked anyway. But the point is it's possible for more spots to open during orientation.

It absolutely happens all the time. But just because it does isn't a guarantee that a school will replace that person. It has to do with all sorts of factors that are beyond your control (e.g. size, medians, demographics, etc.).
It's a classic "plan for the worst, hope for the best" situation.
I hate that I still have folks hanging on my waitlist until school starts. I try not to do it, but I can't predict what will happen either so I too have to plan for the worst and hope for the best.
