Fellowships considered relevant softs?

Post by ntaf2014 » Mon Jul 14, 2014 3:08 pm

I know the topic of "softs" has been discussed to death but I am curious about how heavily research fellowships weigh on admissions. Like the undergraduate Liman Fellowship at Yale. How much do you all think this would help with admission? Other opinions regarding fellowships during and after undergrad?

I think it's a positive soft, but not at the level where you can expect it to help you outperform your numbers.

actually no although I can't blame you for interpreting it as such. It's just that the more I read about admissions the more I'm beginning to feel like none of my accomplishments matter and I'm having an anxiety attack.

Knowing full well how little "soft" factors mean to your admissions chances might just be the knowledge that drives you to A) study your butt off/rock the LSAT, and B) revise your application materials like a man/woman possessed. The outcome of those efforts might even be such that when admissions committees are reviewing your file against other qualified applicants with similar numbers and equally polished personal statements, but who lack the "softs" you possess, it will be those same meaningless "softs" that set you apart for scholarship money.

Don't stress, work smart, be confident in your accomplishments, but don't rest on them.
