If GULC graduated a class size of 200 instead of 600+...
If GULC graduated a class size of ~200 like Cornell, Duke, etc rather than it's current 600+, where would it's employment prospect rank in relation to the rest of the T14?
I'm thinking somewhere in the T6?

GULC and T6?! Brain does not compute, what is this madness!
For that to be possible GULC would have to maintain the absolute number of people it sends into biglaw and clerkships despite shrinking its class size drastically. And this would require those employers being willing to draw from the top 75% of Georgetown's class. I would venture that such willingness is highly unlikely due to the elitist nature of the legal industry and the reputation that Georgetown already has (relative to the rest of the T14).
*Edited for wording.

I think it would be like Northwestern and Penn. Solid T14s.

It's employment would not plummet correspondingly because it's medians and quality of students would improve significantly.
It would certainly improve it's LST score, and eventually it's USNEWS rank.

It has nothing to do with medians and quality of students. Firms don't know nor care about shit like that.Lord Randolph McDuff wrote:It's employment would not plummet correspondingly because it's medians and quality of students would improve significantly.

It has to do with Georgetown trying to place a crazy large number of students into a tough market (DC). In order to place as well as Penn, Gtown would have to take up like 25% of DC firms Summer classes and firms just don't do that. Cutting class size in half won't lead to schools hiring half as many Georgetown students. Sure they won't hire shitbirds still, but people in the median area will do better.
Firms don't think Georgetown is worse than Michigan. It's just circumstances.

Nobody cares about that shit. It's overall employment will decrease, but not plummet because firms are still going to come in looking for a certain number of GULC students. I agree with DF: it'd probably place in the middle of the T14.Lord Randolph McDuff wrote:It's employment would not plummet correspondingly because it's medians and quality of students would improve significantly.

It may not attract some of the higher caliber students it can currently attract (because having a large class allows some students to pay sticker and for you to offer more scholarships to others). If you shrink the class size, shrink the income brought in by students paying full tuition, and shrink the scholarship pool, it would be more difficult to attract the best 200 students it can get right now. (Unless I'm mistaken...)

The best applicants aren't the best students. So gives a fuck about best applicants.Idealist wrote:It may not attract some of the higher caliber students it can currently attract (because having a large class allows some students to pay sticker and for you to offer more scholarships to others). sure, might punch higher on LST but they would have to shed hundreds of profs and administrators, close down clinics & externship programs, ect. or the university would fold in on itself. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but it's more complicated than just admitting & enrolling 1/3 the number of students - as far as the US News survey is concerned, I'm not sure it would draw Georgetown any closer into the T10 unless they were able to increase their admissions standards, which again would be difficult to do in an era of declining LSAT scores and such because the market and prior rankings have already crystallized applicant preferences.
