how to show interest for Penn law?
hi guys,
I have a 3.4 GPA and a 174 LSAT and am looking to ED Penn. I was wondering how do i go about and show interest in Penn? i know applying ED is obvious, but in what other ways should I go about and show interest? Maybe visit them (close enough for me)?
EDIT: i know this isn't the chances thread, but do y'all think I can get Penn ED with those stats? mylsn says so but the sample size is pretty small.

As I told you before, do not apply ED - sticker is not worth it unless you are LRAP or bust (don't do this).hopefulEagle wrote:hi guys,

Visit the school. Talk to students and alum. Obtain fodder to write a good Why Penn essay. Be genuine. Don't oversell it.

I don't think your chances at Penn RD are so bad that you have to ED...And maybe you end up deciding that Penn at sticker is best choice but you'd be robbing yourself of the option of picking other schools with more money, or potentially negotiating with Penn after an RD offer.
To answer your question, i think applying ED is probably the best way to express serious interest...i don't think they're going to admit you or deny you based on whether you visited the campus or something lol

Please don't apply ED and thereby rob yourself of the chance to negotiate for scholarships. I go to Penn.
Apply RD and mention the following throughout your application and in your Why Penn essay:
-Time when you took an interdisciplinary approach to solve a problem
-Ability to thrive in small environments
-Ability to contribute to a colegial environment

I don't really understand.. I want to apply ED at Texas. I asked this question earlier. How does applying ED effect scholarship? Like for example, if I applied ED at Texas, got rejected, but then raised my LSAT and GPA that semester, would I be able to apply again in the same period with a different result?

You will not get a scholarship if you ED. Period. Except maybe to NU, and no one gets that.choward014 wrote:I don't really understand.. I want to apply ED at Texas. I asked this question earlier. Do not ED. This isn't complicated.

I dont understand though, why? Would you not have a HIGHER chance at the availability of money that the school has to offer if you apply early?ymmv wrote:You will not get a scholarship if you ED. Because the school has ZERO INCENTIVE to give you a scholarship when you have COMMITTED TO ATTEND WHETHER OR NOT YOU RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP.choward014 wrote:I dont understand though, why? Apologies for the volume, but I don't know how it's possible for you not to understand this if you're seriously applying to law schools. Applying ED and getting accepted commits you to attend at sticker price and locks you out of all other competing offers, including any chance of leveraging scholarship funds. It's a terrible fucking idea.

OHHHH okay. For some reason, I wasnt under the impression that ED meant that, upon acceptance, you HAD to go to that school. I thought the purpose of ED was for the people that wanted to get their college applications out of the way early just to avoid procrastination. I mean, that makes sense. The confusion was over the def of ED lol

What you describe is Early Action, and basically no one does it in the law school game.choward014 wrote:OHHHH okay. A 3.4/174 appears to have a >35% at admission, with your GPA being the limiting factor. Not bad. If you 1. Write the additional essays they ask for, 2. E-mail them a letter(s) of continued interest (if you get waitlisted), and 3. Do a visit, and speak with their admissions director via interview, you'll likely have no problem. Another plus is if you can get a current student to introduce you to the admissions team.hopefulEagle wrote:hi guys,

A lot of this data is from the last 5 admissions cycles, so I believe you'll outperform most of these people:
3.4/174: 10% http://lawschoolnumbers.com/gpa-3.4/lsat-174
3.4/173: 42% http://lawschoolnumbers.com/gpa-3.4/lsat-173
3.4/172: 50% http://lawschoolnumbers.com/gpa-3.4/lsat-172
3.35/174: 28.6% http://lawschoolnumbers.com/gpa-3.35/lsat-174
3.35/172: 43% http://lawschoolnumbers.com/gpa-3.35/lsat-172

sorry for adding onto the OP question, but how do you request for an interview when you visit at Penn law?
