Extending a deferral?

Post by El_Bee_Oh » Sun Jun 22, 2014 11:22 am

I was wondering if anyone here knew how common it is for law firms to extend deferrals? I was admitted into one of YHS for two years and now, toward the end of the first year, I have come by an opportunity that would require me to defer for an additional 2 years for a total of 4. Has anyone ever asked for an extended deferral and how likely do you think it will be? It seems like people have said just to withdraw and reapply in two years, but given these schools' admissions (especially Yale and Stanford) there isn't a guarantee I'll be admitted if I apply again so I'd prefer to defer if I can. Thanks!

Asha says she will in no circumstances extend a deferral beyond 3 years. And to even get to three, the circumstances have to be extraordinary. So Yale won't allow it. I don't know about Stanford. Harvard is very liberal with deferrals--you could probably get away with one more year with them but two is a stretch.
