How to politely ask professor to send LOR for the 3rd time?

Post by surf » Thu Jun 12, 2014 3:32 pm

Took 3 classes with one of my recommenders. He was (very) happy to write me a letter upon my completion of the third class I was taking with him. He sent me a draft of the letter and it was extremely detailed and excellent, requesting any changes I wanted him to make be sent to him.

Fast forward to now (about 4 months later) I have finished that third class and graduated. I sent him an email about 3 weeks ago reminding him and he said he would get to it that week and email me once he submitted it to LSAC. So far I haven't received anything. I'm taking the Dec LSAT and will be applying this fall for next fall so I guess I'm not in too big of a rush but it would be nice to have that letter in LSAC since my other one has been there for quite some time.

How do I politely ask him yet again to get to it? He's a busy professor I guess..haha

I'd say wait a month after your last request and then send a reply to your earlier email saying you hope he's having a good summer, that you wanted to check when he'll be able to send in your letter and that you'd be happy to help if he needs any more information or has any questions about LSAC's submission system.

This is somewhat off-topic, but why are you taking the December LSAT if you're planning to apply this upcoming cycle? That's going to make your applications fairly late in the cycle and limit your chances for timely retakes if your score isn't where you want it to be on your first take.

Had a very similar situation. You seriously just politely ask again.

Dear XYZ,

Apologies for the repeated request and I greatly appreciate your willingness to write me a letter of recommendation as I know this is taking time out of your schedule. I just wanted to let you know that I have to submit the letter by XYZ date. Would you be able to complete it by then? Your recommendation will be very important for law school admissions.

Thanks again for all your help!
