e-mail LoR?
I don't want to create the wrong impression about why I'm working with the people I'm working with so I'm a little daunted by the prospect of personally being like "Hey, yeah, I need an LOR but don't worry, I'll still stick around". So would it be "weird" to just e-mail and give them the platform or is that par for the course in the e-age?

Asking someone to write you a letter over email instead of in person

Be an adult and do it in person. What's your other plan? Email them and then try to avoid speaking to them or pretend you didn't send the email until they respond?

From someone you work with currently? That's weird-don't do that.haroldton86 wrote:Asking someone to write you a letter over email instead of in person
IMO, it's fine to ask someone for a letter of rec over email if they don't live in the same area (or, if they do but you wouldn't otherwise see them, it's fine to email them to request a time to talk in person about it). It's weird to ask your current employer who you presumably see on a regular basis for a letter via email instead of in person.

Thanks for the responses. I would add that the people I see everyday would certainly be talked to in person. However, I'm talking about people I don't see frequently (thesis director, volunteer coordinator). They know me moderately well, but mostly based on my writing/actions/consistency(volunteer).

Let me rephrase Koala's very good advice: speak to the person you're asking face to face unless actually basically impossible.
