Does anyone have a simple list of which schools want/require "Why [X] Law School" essays?

I don't know of any school that requires a Why X essay, however:

If the school has a small class size, a Why X essay will help.

If you have absolutely no ties to the area the school is in, and the school has small class size, you probably should do a Why X essay.

If your numbers are above the 75th percentiles, and the school is small, and you have no ties to the area, you should write a Why X essay. They might think you're not very likely to attend and could waitlist you.

Almost positive Michigan requires one. I've heard Berkeley looks favorably upon them.

Michigan definitely does not. I applied this year, got $$$ without one. See my other comments about schools like Boalt.
