I don't think it's common. I would withdraw and reapply, a 3.85 GPA and 172 LSAT is close to HLS medians (at least when I applied a few years back) and you will most likely get into Chicago, Columbia, Penn, and Duke, and it is likely you will get scholarship money. I could certainly see $75k or more from the schools on your list (even HLS depending on you and your parent's financial situation).
I think this is an easy call. Withdraw and reapply. You'll delay law school a year but save yourself a ton of money in the process.

So is it better to I withdraw now instead of wait? Would declining the offer from wait list because of sticker money lower my chance of getting in when I reapply?ph14 wrote:I don't think it's common. I mean, you could wait and see what happens. Maybe some waitlist movement frees up scholarship money. But, I think it would be overall the most strategic course of action to just completely reapply again in the fall. You could get scholarship offers from multiple schools, and leverage those into even better scholarship offers. Plus you would definitely be in serious consideration for big money and named scholarships at some great schools.Catherinelo365 wrote:So is it better to I withdraw now instead of wait? I seriously doubt declining an offer from the wait list would hurt your chances going forward, especially with your stats, but I can't guarantee that. If it were me I probably would just withdraw from everywhere but schools that offer need based money and just commit to next cycle. But there isn't any harm in riding out the waitlists and seeing if you do somehow get lucky and end up with some money. I would bet, though, that you would get more money simply by waiting until next cycle to apply, even from the same schools (as there is a limited scholarship fund for each year and, generally speaking, it's probably more likely that you would get a better offer when there is more money that has yet to be distributed).

Do not withdraw. Just wait and see if anyone admits you. You never know. Just keep sending Locis to your top choice and update them with your grades if you are still K-JD. I don't think it makes sense for you to withdraw at this point.

At least don't withdraw from Harvard if you want to go. If they admit you this year, you'll get the same amount of aid as if you wait. I wouldn't say your chances are slim since the WL moves a lot. Just ride it hard with a visit and LOCI.

WL admits on TLS have stated that they've received aid from at least some of the schools you've listed (can't remember precisely which ones). I don't recall anyone getting more than 75k, but you could trawl through the waitlist threads to see. I can't really say what your chances are.Catherinelo365 wrote:Do law schools give money to WL admits?
Is there any chance to get lots of $$ (something more than 75k) from WL?
I'm a 3.85+172. WL at Harvard, Chicago, Columbia, Penn, and Duke.
I know Harvard offers need based aid to WL admits (but I guess my chance at Harvard is slim), but what about others? Or should I withdraw from those schools and reapply this fall?
I don't think it hurts to ride out the waitlist and see what happens. The only drawback I can think of is that you might get an aid offer that you aren't happy with, but feel a huge amount of pressure to go anyway, rather than wait out a year.
You might be surprised at how little willpower you have when you have a top school in hand and are ready to roll, even with a miserly aid package.
