Will withdrawing from a class affect my admissions offer? Forum

I have been accepted to and deposited at a law school that has offered me a full scholarship. I'm very excited about this and I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize my admissions offer or scholarship. However, this semester I am enrolled in a one credit independent study that is not going well at all. This project has caused me a great deal of stress and I really want to withdraw from this course. If I withdraw, it will not affect my GPA, but will show up as a "WD" on my transcript. I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to whether or not this would affect my acceptance/scholarship in any way? Thanks for your help!

It's not required, however it would allow me to graduate with an honors distinction in my grade

I do not think that taking a withdrawal would impact any acceptances that you have on hand.

The subject of W's on transcripts have come up on the Spivey thread a few times, and the general responses do not seem to view them with a great deal of concern.

Generally on their acceptance letters, they will have stipulations such as you must maintain a certain level of grades (much more common for undergrad applications) or that you must graduate before a certain time (the only stipulation from all of T14 as far as I am aware). So if your acceptance letter did not stipulate that you must graduate with honours, then you have nothing to worry about because it is the admission's responsibility to inform you of the requirements on the offer they have made or else I think you can sue the school for breach of contract or something if they revoke their offer when you have met all the stipulated conditions. Practicing lawyers should help me out on this point but I am quite sure acceptances unlike biglaw jobs are not at will.

As long as your GPA doesn't drop drastically and you graduate, you'll be fine.

edit: I dropped a bs class my last semester and no one batted an eye.

A withdrawal during your last semester doesn't matter. Like at all. Not even a little. Take the W and drink heavily until August.
