turning down scholarship

Post by 2014entering2014 » Tue Apr 08, 2014 6:49 pm

I was thinking of turning down a school who has offered me a scholarship so that I can give someone else a chance to get that money. If I do this will I loose leverage schools Im negotiating with right now if Ive already told those schools about the offer?

Do not turn down a scholarship for the sake of others if your not done leveraging your scholarship that would be crazy schools have more than enough money to offer all their students sizeable scholarships that's just a BS line they feed applicants if they want a student to come to their school money will not be an issue so don't worry about some kid getting turned away because your scholarship money is locked up that is completely and entirely unrelated to the amount they offer others students so just go about your cycle as you would any other prospective student and withdraw from schools after you have completed all of your scholarship negotiations and leveraged your existing scholarship to the max.

It's a nice sentiment but if there is even a chance it could hurt your leverage (I would say there is), you should look out for your interests first.

This a 100% factually inaccurate megasentence. Schools routinely offer way more scholarship money than they have. I don't think you need to worry about turning down scholarships before you're done negotiating with everyone, but definitely do it as soon as you know.
