Where can a 177 land me?
Not a flame.
I'm a junior at Oxbridge in the UK. I have a 177 on the LSAT (real score, not speculation), but my grades are probably insufficient to qualify for a 'superior' on the LSAC foreign transcript evaluation service (for those familiar with the UK grading system: mainly second uppers, with a few firsts here and there). So where do you guys think I'll be able to get into with an 'Above Average' LSAC transcript evaluation grade and a 177 LSAT score? I have read that HYS doesn't accept any less than a 'superior' but do I still stand a decent chance at CCN?
Thanks for your time.

you certainly do have a good chance at CCN. Apply to HYS as well.

Re: Where can a 177 land me?
Thanks for the reply. Might I ask if you know of any successful foreign applicants to any top US law schools (on this forum or irl)? Has anyone actually gotten into a T6 with only an 'above average' on the LSAC eval? That's the main thing I'm concerned about really. I've heard that foreign applicants are admitted on the strength of LSAT scores rather than GPAs but that doesn't seem accurate for HYS at least.Typhoon24 wrote:you certainly do have a good chance at CCN. might hurt for HYS, especially if your softs are average/non diverse, somewhere like NYU would definitely admit you though

I have a 177, good-but-not-spectacular grades. Admitted: Georgetown, NYU, Columbia, UCLA, Berkeley, Duke. Waitlisted: Harvard. Rejected: Stanford.

You can get into Harvard and Stanford with a 177, nontraditional grades, good essays and recs. The recs and essays need to make up possible deficiency of "above average" and tell a compelling story that shows you to be more than "above average".

Seems like you went to a US school though. International non-superior is a little different since it could read lower than a 3.6x.wowhio wrote:I have a 177, good-but-not-spectacular grades. Admitted: Georgetown, NYU, Columbia, UCLA, Berkeley, Duke. Waitlisted: Harvard. Rejected: Stanford.

Regardless, I think OP's cycle may resemble yours.

Re: Where can a 177 land me?
Is an 'Above Average' seen as a 3.6x by US law schools? :s That would probably lock me out of the T6 entirely if it were true. Should I resit for the LSAT and shoot for 178-180, or would that not make much of a difference at all? I'm sorry if I'm asking obvious questions but from browsing this forum I've come to form the impression that US law school admissions are more or less algorithmic based exclusively on grades/LSAT.jbagelboy wrote:Seems like you went to a US school though. Re: Where can a 177 land me?
wait wuuuttt. 3.6x doesn't lock you out of the T6 at all. Take a closer look. You're way above median at every single law school. There are only two schools (Stanford and Yale) where you would be considered basically out with a gpa in the 3.6's. The issue is more that above-average could be read at different levels, so it's harder to give you a precise estimation of your chances.Lexecon wrote:Is an 'Above Average' seen as a 3.6x by US law schools? :s That would probably lock me out of the T6 entirely if it were true. And no, retaking would do nothing for you.

I would think softs become much more important here, because your school doesn't have to worry about messing up its medians, floors, etc. I would apply everywhere north of GULC (or maybe even higher)

For what it's worth, my 2:1 was rated as a Superior, not an Above Average.

Flame is basically a troll, from what I can tell. A 'junior' is someone in his penultimate year of uni--using American nomenclature to fit in here.NapoleonXV wrote:flame?

!!! This is the first I've heard of a 2i getting a superior. Over at the llm-guide forum there are multiple threads by Europeans about getting screwed over by the LSAC evaluation system (e.g. getting rated as 'AA' despite ranking first in the school). Was your average a 69.5? Thanks for giving me some hope.JenBunny wrote:For what it's worth, my 2:1 was rated as a Superior, not an Above Average.

I think someone on this forum did PPE, got just over 200 in prelims, initially rated as AA, argued his case with LSAC (basically, >200 PPE = Distinction) and got changed to S.Lexecon wrote:Flame is basically a troll, from what I can tell. Re: Where can a 177 land me?
Wonderful to hear about this! I have around the same marks for prelims too so I think it may be possible to get bumped up to an S if there's precedent for it. I just hope that the LSAC will accept collections results. I've won a couple of college collection prizes but none of them are 'official' because of the silly Oxbridge system of not including anything on the transcript except for 'public' examinationsNapoleonXV wrote:I think someone on this forum did PPE, got just over 200 in prelims, initially rated as AA, argued his case with LSAC (basically, >200 PPE = Distinction) and got changed to S.Lexecon wrote:Flame is basically a troll, from what I can tell. Check out my cycle in my profile. Even with a sub-3.5 I wasn't locked out of the T6. Don't underestimate what that LSAT score can do for you.

Re: Where can a 177 land me?
I was up in Scotland, so my marks were on a different scale, but I would say that I had a high 2:1, but I wasn't suuuuper close to a first. From what I gather, as well, since non-US students have no GPA, schools will weigh the LSAT much more heavily (since our non-existent GPA can neither hurt nor help them). And since you got an excellent score, I would think you've got a great chance (regardless of whether your degree is rated Superior or Above Average). What might also help that is UK schools seem to be regarded much more highly than other non-U.S. institutions (whether or not that is fair).Lexecon wrote:!!! To give you a sense, I'm at a T10 with only a 170 on my LSAT. I hope that helps and best of luck to you!
