Take the non-punitive W for a 4.0?

Post by ulupulu » Wed Apr 02, 2014 10:45 pm

Really appreciate any input on this, feel like a total mess right now.

So this is my second to last semester in undergrad and I received straight A+s in first semester, and should have a 4.0 this semester if not for this one course. It would also be my first annual 4.0 in my undergraduate degree. For the course, I have a huge grade discrepancy out of the first two of the four assignments I received an A- and a C+ respectively. I haven't received the marks for the third one yet and my deadline to drop for a non-punitive W is in a couple of days. I honestly don't feel really confident in this course but I am also on the fence to bust my behind and finish it strong. It is a mandatory course for my degree, but as I still have another semester and I can find this course at other universities, I am willing to retake it for transfer credit. I have an upward trend from difficult second year and the 4.0 would really be a nice finish. Already have one non-punitive W (from second year).

Calculations:

With course (at a B), undergraduate GPA: low 3.6
Without course, undergraduate GPA: mid 3.6
0.02 difference

With course (at a B), LSAC GPA: high 3.6
Without course, LSAC GPA: low 3.7
0.02 difference, I know hitting the 3.7 floor is crucial

Should I get over my pride and finish the course? Will two non-punitive W's, especially a non-punitive W this late in the degree be a bad thing? Or will a 4.0 just be crucial in itself? If I want to keep graduate school as an open option after law school, will the difference matter?

Looking to apply to the top half of the T14. How will this look at the top schools?

I know I have another chance at trying for a 4.0 in my last summer semester, but really stressed out about this.

Thank you for any input.

they won't care about one W. at all.

they report your LSDAS GPA to USNWR, not how many W's you have, and that's basically all they care about.
