employment review?
A few questions, thanks for helping me out if you can. How do LS approach the employment listings on your application? Meaning, do they call all the employers to verify employment? I was actually fired once and summarily won a substantial law suit against that company for wrongful termination. So, when the LS calls the company to verify employment, will they also discover I was fired? If so, will they also take into consideration I won a lawsuit against them for wrongful termination? Should I preempt this situation by disclosing the lawsuit in the application up front?
The bigger question is, will any of this be detrimental in the LS decision?

DISCLAIMER: I have no clue what I'm talking about...
.... that being said, I'd be very very very surprised if adcomms called all of the employers on 5000+ applicants' resume's to verify employment and get details.

I wouldn't worry about this being detrimental to a law school app. From the school's perspective, the fact that you won means you were probably in the right and you employer wrongfully terminated you. However, I wouldn't want this to come up doing OCI.

Thanks, just to clarify, are you saying they will check? Do you think I should just mention it in my ap? Also, what does OCI mean? Thanks again guys.hichvichwoh wrote:I wouldn't worry about this being detrimental to a law school app. From the school's perspective, the fact that you won means you were probably in the right and you employer wrongfully terminated you. This is likely an important event for your financial future. You should look into it sooner rather than later (later being when your tuition is due).

What i mean is, you should not mention it at all. It is unlikely that schools will contact your prior employers. Even if they do and find out about this, it will be meaningless to them. Don't mention it, but don't misrepresent what happened either. But yeah, OCI is a different story because employers don't care whether you're right or wrong, they just don't want to be sued.secondshot wrote:Thanks, just to clarify, are you saying they will check? Thanks guys. I plan to either hang my own shingle or go public defender, so I'm assuming I won't have to worry too much about OCI.
Thanks for the help guys.

It is something to note on your bar character and fitness application. You're usually required to mention all your employment in the last 10 years and state honestly why you no longer work for the employer. The addendum of wrongful termination at that time will cover your bases.

Re: employment review?
Only answer what is asked. If the application asks for the reason why you left that position (as many bar exam applications do) or if you have ever been a party in any legal action (as almost all bar exam applications do), then you must disclose. If the app doesn't ask, the school doesn't care and volunteering the information is a waste of time that surely won't help you.

Interesting, well if it's 10 years, then it would fall outside of that time range. I assume you mean 10 years prior to LS graduation? By the time I graduate, it will have been 14 years since I had that job.Tanicius wrote:It is something to note on your bar character and fitness application. I would be very careful reading the C&F questions on the apps to the schools you are applying to/ plan on applying to. I have seen a few apps that specifically ask if you have ever been a party to a law suit. Disclosing this won't hurt you all in regards to admissions. What would suck is to make it all the way through law school and get dinged on C&F before you even get to take the bar for not fully disclosing on your law school application.

Re: employment review?
I've seen some C&F questions that ask if you've ever been terminated from a job under certain circumstances (like moral turpitude) and I think I saw one that simply asked if you've ever been terminated, so it would be relevant to share your situation in an addendum if you encounter those questions. I don't think as a general rule they reach out to your employers though.
When you go to take the bar I believe they'll investigate your employment history, so for that situation make sure all the information (especially C&F questions) on your application are accurate.
