Unusual friend request...

Post by bobloblaw0227 » Mon Mar 24, 2014 5:47 pm

Don't want to mention the school, but the Dean (the head Dean, not the admissions one) just sent me a Facebook friend request. I've been admitted already but this seems like a precarious situation, especially since I'm still waiting on scholly info. I rarely post anything to Facebook besides a Happy Birthday or a status like, but I don't want to dig through my old photos to make sure there's nothing incriminating. Do people normally friend the dean?

7/10 decent flame.

Unless it's actually true, in which case 10/10 excellent flame by the Dean.

That's really weird. He or she was probably just spying on you and accidentally clicked add friend and didn't realize it.

Not flame. I think I'm just going to leave it unanswered for a week or two. Still strange though. Student-administrator relationships generally do not spill over into FB.

ACCEPT IT! How many students get to see their dean's profile? If it was a mistake by the dean make her regret it.

Can't you modify your privacy settings to what individuals can see on FB? If so, you could change what albums/pics that he or she would see.

I initially was going to suggest you ignore it, but then the privacy settings were brought up. Accept the request, then change your settings and put the dean on restricted viewing so that they can see only a profile picture and basic biographical things. Then you can explore. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the dean put everybody on restricted viewing.

A screenshot would give away the identity of the school and would jeopardize my valuable online anonymity. Why would I make this up?

Knowing the school would make all the difference here. I only ask because the dean's at some CBE and unranked schools are recruiting online, fishing on FB and even positing in LS forums, pimping their schools.

I know because one of them emailed me last week to tell me how great his school was. And no, his school is not great.

Was it the dean of the University of DC Law? He's been known to utilize similar marketing tactics.

I will say that it was a school ranked in the 30's. I'm going to add him and make sure to adjust privacy settings. Thanks for the input.

My boss at an internship at a law firm added me on Facebook.
Just go to privacy settings and limit the person so they can only see your current profile picture and nothing else. Not a big deal.

What ever became of this awesome thing?

After you added him did you let him know Feb test-takers are up, so he can stop friending strangers? Just a thought!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
