What are my chances?
Here goes nothing. I am an African American male applying to law schools for this upcoming fall. I am a Computer Engineering major/ Math and Physics minor with 3.4 GPA and I just scored a measly 152 on my LSAT. I have tons of good Softs, positions of leadership, and great recommendation letters. My personal statement revolved around my time interning at the firm that handled the Trayvon Martin case. What are my chances of getting into a Top 100?

You're not getting into any place worth going. Retake. If you crack 165 you're almost guaranteed a T6.aladkins92 wrote:Here goes nothing. I agree that you should retake the LSAT; nevertheless, you should be admitted to well over half of the top 100 ranked law schools as an AA male with your numbers & background.

Re: What are my chances?
Retake is the only option. Top-100 shouldn't be your goal; with your stats/softs you should be aiming way higher. Anything above a 160 (very doable) will open numerous doors and opportunities for you. Take a course, spend all of your money on books/pt's, put real effort and time into a retake, and then once you get your retake score simply enjoy the rest of your life knowing you made the right (only) choice.

As much as I would love to retake, I cancelled my June and October scores not knowing they would count against me. February was my last chance to take it. Guess im screwed, or im just going to have to transfer.

TCR is to get some more work experience and re-take at a later time.aladkins92 wrote:As much as I would love to retake, I cancelled my June and October scores not knowing they would count against me. February was my last chance to take it. Guess im screwed, or im just going to have to transfer.

Re: What are my chances?
Thanks for the input. The issue is that I took June lsat and scored a 145, cancelled my october score, and invested in a tutor for February which was my last attempt. I've never been a great standardized test taker, and Im beyond depressed that this test has inhibited my dreams of pursuing IP. Maybe I can just go somewhere and transfer, any thoughts?

Getting a few years of WE is generally a great option, that's what I would do if I was in your position. If you decide in a few years that you still want to go to law school, then hammer down and study hard for the lsat and enjoy the career prospects of a T-14.aladkins92 wrote:As much as I would love to retake, I cancelled my June and October scores not knowing they would count against me. If you want to get into IP study for the patent agent test.

More people need to know about this. You don't need to be a lawyer to enter IP.

To do good enough to transfer to a school worth attending at sticker would likely require a rank of top 10% or better.aladkins92 wrote: Maybe I can just go somewhere and transfer, any thoughts?
Now, your LSAT score is like top 50%, and that's compared to the general population, which is generally pretty dumb and ambitionless. Odds of you being able to score a 160+ and getting into a really good school (top 80ish% LSAT score) are MUCH MUCH greater than your odds of beating out 90% of a law school class, where the average student's admissions stats mirror, or are likely better than, yours. Further, you only have 1 shot at 1L finals. Youll have 3 shots at the LSAT if you wait.
basically, the transferring strategy is extremely unlikely, and shouldn't be a consideration. you should assume you will finish around median wherever you go, and you should be happy with the job prospects that will entail.

does being "African American male" lead you to believe that you are more entitled?
i've got a 9 inch penis, do you think I'm going to put that on my application?

Work for a few years and then retake. Transferring is not a viable option.
If you can't get into a good school at a good price, just don't go.

From your other posts, I assume that that is in bold at the top of your application, yes. I assume your application itself is just pictures of trench coats alternated with racial slurs.Sam_Spade wrote:does being "African American male" lead you to believe that you are more entitled?

Awesome! Just make sure that it's in a state that you would like to live in/near after law school.aladkins92 wrote:Just an update, I got into a Top 25 on Full Out of State Scholarship. Thanks for all of your advice.

This. OP, it's great that you got a full scholarship, but don't get TOO obsessed with ranking numbers. Outside of the T14 schools, the region is really more important than the number. If the T25 is in a region where you would like to work post-graduation, then awesome. If not, proceed with caution.jingosaur wrote:Awesome!
