Should I take a B or a W?

Post by rribley » Thu Feb 27, 2014 11:07 pm

Hi. This post might seem trivial but such is the life of a law school hopeful. I'm part of the honors program at my undergrad and am taking the honors curriculum so I can get a seal on my diploma and be eligible for more scholarships at my school. There will also be a notation on my transcript describing the program if I finish. I've taken all of the credits except this last one I'm taking now...honors math :-(. As of now it looks like I'm gonna get stuck with a B.

I'm applying to law school entry in fall 2015. If I take the B my cumulative after this semester will be 3.81 and I'll still get the university honors. If I withdraw my GPA will be 3.83. By graduation the B will in all likelihood take my GPA down from a 3.85 to 3.84.

I've read that Ws aren't a big deal unless they are punitive which in this case they are not.

Does this matter at all? Will they give my grades from this spring more weight since they will be the first ones I send in? Will the university honors matter to them at all? My LSAT practice scores so far are kind of borderline so I feel like I might be a splitter.

Thanks

i would take the b, i don't think that gpa hit is significant at all, especially to outweigh honors which could potentially help for jobs and stuff too, but idk what others would do

check and double check to make sure the w isn't punitive. but still, B isn't bad. also, consider doing something after law school instead of going right through.

Will taking a W mean that you fall below full-time student status? That could affect your financial aid, so something to look into. If there is no way the W can hurt you in terms of financial aid or GPA, then you could take it.

On the other hand, the B doesn't hurt at all. It's a tiny, tiny difference in your GPA.

The Ws definitely aren't punitive and it won't take me below full time status.
I'll probably just take the B. I was pretty sure I was thinking too much into this haha.

Thanks
B
