Messed up GPA calculation...

Post by kaquino » Thu Feb 20, 2014 7:16 pm

Title pretty much sums it up. On my UG transcipt, my cum gpa is .07 lower than what LSDAS has my GPA at. I put my UG cumulative GPA on my apps instead of the LSDAS.

I'm waiting on responses for the majority of my apps. Obviously, I want to sell myself to the best of my potential, even if it's just by a .07 of a difference.

So what do you guys think. Should I contact the law schools and make them aware of my GPA mistake on my apps? Or will the committees most likely look at the LSAC report anyway?

... I would say don't contact them.
More harmful than helpful IMO. They're trying to figure out who's going to be a great lawyer aka who has a great attention to detail.
They use your LSAC GPA anyway.

So wouldn't contacting them show that I've realized I made a detail-oriented mistake, and that I'm trying to fix it? Or would this still be considered harmful/back-peddling..

they'll look at LSAC. lots of applicants may have multiple undergrad institutions or have divergences btw their LSDAS and facial UGPAs, so they won't have the same numbers on apps/CVs as they will consolidated on LSDAS. the LSAC report takes care of that problem for them.

if your LSDAS GPA will help boost their median for rankings purposes they will want to know, so they'll be looking at that number and not whatever you put on the apps. if they wonder why it's different on your app it will be obvious if they look at your transcript, which, if they care about the reason, they will at that point.

basically: don't worry about it.

Yes, don't worry. I did the same thing (UGPA) on my resume, though I did it on purpose. My cycle is going very well, so it obviously didn't hurt me.
