Undergraduate: number of credits needed before law school
So I just started an undergraduate degree at university in a 90- credit program: A major in sociology (42 credits) and a minor in law and society (24 credits). The remaining credits are electives: 18 program- oriented credits and 6 general education credits. Thus forming a total of 90 credits as mentioned earlier. I am interested in applying for the joint degree JD/ MBA after my undergrad, but the thing is I don't know how many credits do law schools require undergraduates prior their entrance to law school. I also heard there's honours programs or even specialization programs in my degree, both worth 120 credits.
What is more preferable, 90 credits or 120 credits? Should I switch?

Law schools just require a bachelor's degree... but are you sure your entire degree is only 90 credits? Does your school do the standard 1 class = 3 credits? Almost all schools require 120 credits under this system.
Also, you're not going to get into a good mba program directly out of undergrad without gaining work experience first.

Yes, it is 3 credits per class. And I'm also thinking about spending some time off working before doing the MBA degree

Hmm, only 30 courses for a bachelor's degree. Less than four per semester. Never heard of that. But if that's somehow correct it doesn't matter how many credits you have as long as you have a real bachelor's degree from a real school.v_san wrote:Pancakes12 wrote:Law schools just require a bachelor's degree... but are you sure your entire degree is only 90 credits? I'm taking 4 classes. The maximum of credits is 15 but I took 12 credits, this being my first semester

Since you're apparently not open to saying what school you go, let's put it this way: is the school a regionally accredited U.S. school?

I guess, I'm from Montreal, Canada. It should be. And yes, I want to go to the US to do my law degree

There we go, now I see why it's a 90 credit program.v_san wrote:Max324 wrote:Since you're apparently not open to saying what school you go, let's put it this way: is the school a regionally accredited U.S. school?

ETA: I was just making sure you weren't doing some weird ITT or Devry-type thing.
