How much does a strong upward trend in GPA matter?

If I start with a 3.0 and end with a 3.6 (get straight A's the last semester with tough classes) how much does that really help my chances?

A lot, because a 3.6 is so much better than a 3.0 lol

It helps in that you will look better than someone who is all-else-equal but had a 4.00 for 2 years and dropped to a 3.6 by grad.
