GW 2L going through OCI...ask away...

If you have any interest in OCI and Big Law and are thinking about going to GW, now's a good time to ask a question...

For about three or four students, fantastic. For the rest, as far as I can tell, it's a grind.

Sounds brutal... :?
There is a clear preference for the top students. The top 10% could probably pull 40 interviews if they wanted to. For the top 50%, that number drops to maybe 8 if they're lucky. And grades seem to play a role in the callback and offer stage.

Do you know of anyone who doesn't interview particularly well but has had callbacks solely because of great grades? (Usually you can tell if someone is decent at interviewing or not just by talking to them.)

It's hard to tell. You'd be surprised how well some of your classmates can interview, even the quite ones. I'll have more information as the process goes on. Although, in general, it seems that there are several frustrated students and they're not all just low-ranking students. The interviewers can be incredibly picky.

Any sense of whether or not non-traditional students/people with a few years of professional work experience post-undergrad are faring differently than k-jd types?

Shouldn't you be at the St. Gregory right now?

My sense is WE isn't making a big impact. It might at the resume/pre-select stage but not at the callback or offer stage.

I am an incoming 1L at GW. Other than getting good grades, do you see any patterns among the students who are having success at OCI? Are most students targeting DC?

A BS/MS/PHD in a hard science tends to help or significant work experience. Application materials without any typos is also key.

Besides that good grades.
