What effect will having a GED make on my app?
Hello,
I am new to the forum but have lurked for some time now. I am taking the lsat in october, and graduating this december. I have a GED, and after four years of college roughly a 3.5 GPA. The 3.5 stems from poor grades my first year in community college.
My question is, what effects will a GED make on my application and decisions? I am also a first generation college student.
I appreciate any and all feedback.

I can't see it making a difference. They care about undergrad.

Most people who get a GED dont go onto college, let alone professional school. I'm assuming there are some sort of extenuating circumstances to why you got a GED instead of the normal route.hfk388479203948 wrote:boot straps story? expound pleasedr123 wrote:Could make for a nice BOOT STRAPS story.

True.
I have a GED too...
My law school admissions cycle was very predictable.

You're right about the extenuating circumstances. I am 22 years old so the circumstances aren't too crazy, but I am definitely a "non-traditional" student.dr123 wrote:Most people who get a GED dont go onto college, let alone professional school. I am not sure if I should write about the circumstances which lead to my GED in my applications, as one of my letter of rec's (one of my first college professors) will most likely include some of my hardships and circumstances in her letter because she is the one person who pushed me and told me I could get anything I want out of life.
I don't want to write a sob story, as I am sure that will not help my application. I wish there was more info/first hand accounts on this scenario. I am sure there are many students who are or have been in my shoes on this forum.

Write about it if you think its a compelling and good topic. If not, don't even mention it, nbd.
Law school admissions is a numbers game.
Your GED is basically a non factor.

What do you mean by predictable? I would like to hear some of your admissions experiences if you care to share some of it.Nova wrote:True.

Predictable means he got accepted to/rejected by schools pretty much according to what you'd expect for someone with his LSAT/GPA. LSAT and GPA (and URM status if applicable) are 98% of a law school application. It takes something quite a bit more extraordinary than a mere GED to affect your chances much.hfk388479203948 wrote:What do you mean by predictable?
